Mavis Rice Eser, 83, of Nathalie passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Brookneal.  She was the wife of the late Thomas Joseph Eser.  

Mrs. Eser was born in Halifax County on July 6, 1937, a daughter of the late Lewis Edward Rice and Lona Anderson Francis.  She was a member of Childrey Baptist Church and a former banker. 

She is survived by a son, Bob W. Ashby (Angie) of Joppa Towne, Maryland; two daughters, Glenda D. Ashby of Parkbill, Maryland and Janet F. Beadles of Dundalk, Maryland; four grandchildren, Erica, Sarah and Daniel Ashby, and Angel Huemmer; a brother, Doug Francis, (Janet) of Vernon Hill; and a sister, Anita Powell, of Nathalie.  

Four brothers, Carrol E. Rice, James L. Rice, Larry T. Francis and Lester Francis; and one sister, Marjorie R. Monroe, also preceded her in death.
