Mildred Lucille Tribble Moon, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019. She was born in Halifax County on Jan. 30, 1925 to Jesse James Tribble and Lina Rudder Tribble. Mildred was one of nine children, E.W. Tribble (deceased), Louise Tribble Moon (deceased), Colleen Tribble Marston (deceased), James (Jim) Tribble (deceased), Betty Ann Tribble Waller of Nathalie, Doris Tribble Wade of Madison Heights, George Tribble (deceased) and Jean Tribble Compton of Williamsburg. Her husband of over fifty years, World War II veteran and farmer Henry E. Moon, passed away in 1998. These people, including their husbands, wives, children, and grandchildren were the focus of her life.

Mildred’s additional priorities in life included her home and church. She was an active member of Republican Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years. During that time, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, fed more than a few preachers, drove the car pool and supplied a countless amount of fried chicken and corn pudding to the congregation.

Her best friends, Rufus Short, Frances Blanks, Melissa Hill, Annie Roark, and Doris Blanks were fellow church ladies and men. Others friends included Wreckly and Lena, Jerry and Shirley, Phillip and Ellen, Ruby, Doris Ann, Kitty, her many sewing customers, all of whom inevitably became her friends, and of course Duke.

She is survived by two children, and their families, June Marie Moon and Montie Pritchett of Afton, Henry and Jodie Moon of Old Mexico. It was June, Montie, and Jodie that selflessly sacrificed themselves and their lives to ensure that her life ended in her home instead of an institution as she wished so mightily. Other survivors include her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Bridget and George Foster and their children Sawyer and McKenzie of Florida, Hank and Alisha Moon of Michigan, Alex Moon of Alabama, and Buddy and Lara Moon and their children Mickey and Charlotte of Virginia.

Funeral and burial services will be held at Republican Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at 2 p.m.

Henderson Funeral Home of Brookneal is handling arrangements.
