Rachel New Dixon of South Boston went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, March 19, 2023.
Born in Halifax County on Oct. 24, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James Monroe New and Molly Bet Cozart New and was married to Harry Odell Dixon, who survives.
Rachel was retired from Wabash. She enjoyed reading, shopping and watching western movies and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Rachel is survived by her daughter, Wanda D. Seamon (Steve); grandchildren, Michael Lawrence (Carrie), Casey Campbell (Briana), Chad Campbell (Ashleigh), Chase Campbell (Morgan) and Brent Seamon (Tiffany) and great-grandchildren, Connor, Cailyn, River, Cade, Kennedy, Will, Livey and Emma. She is also survived by her brothers, Earl Floyd New and James Ronald New and a host of nieces and nephews. Rachel was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lawrence Keeton and by siblings, Franklin Monroe New, Marion Jordan and Marie Barbery.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home prior to the service from noon to 1:30 p.m.
