On Saturday, June 14, 2020, Randolph Sweeney passed peacefully at home in Halifax.

Randolph was born in Halifax County on Aug. 17, 1942 to the late Moses Sweeney Sr. and Mary Peters Sweeney.  

He received his formal education in Halifax County public schools. He relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1957, where he began his career in construction until his retirement. While working construction he was instrumental in helping to tie steel for the WMATA Metro Transit System. 

Randolph was affectionately known as Mink, Rabbit and/or Randy.  He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

Randolph accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a member of County Line Missionary Baptist Church.

In March of 1964 he married Bettie Jean Edmonds. The union was blessed with five children.  

He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Andre Sweeney (Chandra), Fonda Sweeney-Holt and Carlos Sweeney; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He will be missed by all that love him.

A wake will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Dunn and Sons Funeral Home, Halifax.

A graveside service for Randolph will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020, at County Line Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, 10151 Chatham Road, Vernon Hill, 24597.
