Ray Turner Jr. of Halifax passed away July 21, 2020.

He was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina on Dec. 17, 1938, and was 81 years of age. He was the son of the late Ray Turner Sr. and the late Ruth Clary Turner. He was married to “Lynn” Barrett Turner who survives.

He was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served with the Methodist Men. Ray retired from Nationwide Insurance after 31 years. Upon his retirement he began serving his community by volunteering at the South Boston-Halifax County Museum, and Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. He was also a member of Dan River Ruritan Club and American Legion Post 8 Honor Guard. He and Lynn loved to travel and Square Dance in their spare time. Ray will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, survivors include his children, Kim T. Burnett (Douglas) of Midlothian,

And Philip Anthony Turner (Wendy) of Cary, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Asa Ryan Burnett and Eric Anthony Burnett; siblings Audrey T. Wiley of South Boston and Floyd Wayne Turner of Suffolk.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bobbie Henley and Sylvester Crawley officiating.

Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
