After a courageous battle with interstitial lung disease, Richard Cregg Wilson died peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
He was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, on Feb. 21, 1954, to Lillian Hawkes Wilson and the late Cregg Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Lovetta Pugh Wilson.
Rich grew up in Ipswich, Massachusetts. He received his education from Valley Forge Military Jr. College, Merrimack College and earned his master’s degree from Geneva Theological College.
He then entered the US Army as a second lieutenant. He was a teacher and later became a corporate executive and land developer.
His lifelong dream of having a farm was realized in Halifax County. Many here have watched that dream unfold. Before moving to Halifax County, he was a member and trustee of University Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church in South Boston, where he loved singing in the choir and the men’s quartet. Rich was a silent philanthropist and drew out the best in people. He was an amazing man.
Rich is greatly missed by his wife, Lovetta Pugh Wilson; sons, Justin Richard Wilson and wife Amy, and Jeffrey Wellman Wilson and wife Ambra; grandchildren, Zachary, Alden, Eleanor, Harper, Cayden and Corbin; his mother, Lillian Wilson; and brother, David Bruce Wilson.
Services for Rich will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rich’s honor to The American Lung Society, online at https://action.lung.org. Brooks Lyon Funeral Home is honored to serve the Wilson family.
