Dr. Robert Louis Hamilton of Freeport, New York and formerly of Halifax County, entered eternal rest at Ozanam Hall Nursing Home at the age of seventy- three. He was born in South Boston on Oct. 13, 1946 and was the son of the late Mr. James Hamilton and Mrs. Louise Jennings Hamilton.
Dr. Hamilton accepted Christ at an early age and joined Ebenezer Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He received his formal education at Mary Bethune High School in Halifax, relocated to New York and graduated from George Washington High School. Having a passion for dentistry, Dr. Hamilton continued his educating at Norfolk State College, Howard University and John Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. His career commenced as an intern at Harlem Hospital Center and afterward he began his private practice in Queens Village, New York. While working in his private practice, Dr. Hamilton also was employed at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in Bronx, New York and Morrisania Hospital where he serviced families in the neighborhood. Subsequently, he became the Dental Director at Montefiore Comprehensive Health Care Center and after leaving Montifere he practiced in Kings County. Dr. Hamilton was the assistant attending dentist at Albert Einstein University College Medicine; however, after relocating to Kings County Medical Center he served as attending dentist.
Dr. Hamilton leaves to cherish loving memories his wife, Mrs. Gloria Fountain Hamilton of the home; two children, Mr. Allen Hamilton and Ms. Allison Hamilton, both of New York; two grandchildren, Amaya and Autumn; numerous in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including his relatives in South Boston.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Hamilton was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Robert Hamilton Jr.; and two brothers, James A. Hamilton and Larry Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church parking lot, Virgilina with Rev. Gerald Fountain and Rev. John Fontaine conducting the service. Family and friends attending the service will be required to remain in their vehicles. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
