Rose Lane Smiley Compton of Scottsburg passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019. She was born in Halifax County on July 27, 1944 and was 75 years of age. She was the daughter of the late James Godfrey Smiley and the late Gladys Nichols Smiley. She was married to Tommy Compton who survives.

She was a member of Clover Baptist Church, where she played on the softball team, participated in mission trips and served as Sunday school teacher.

She loved bingo and was a beautician for many years.

Rose Lane is survived by her husband, Tommy Compton, of Scottsburg; two daughters, Kimberly W. Fisher of Scottsburg and Tina Elms (Will) of Gordonsville; grandchildren Christopher Fisher (Ashley), Jonathan Fisher, Olivia Diane Elms, Tyler Morris, Jordan Morris, Jillian Reagan (Ryan) and Alex Mulberry; great-grandchildren Khloe Fisher, Annaleigh Fisher, Levi Fisher, Bryson Fisher, Madison Fisher, Liam Morris and Breken Reagan; siblings Diane S. Powell of South Boston and Jimmy Smiley (Solvi) of Clover; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Edward Morris, and brother-in-law Runt Powell.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Clover Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Walker officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at her home, 8225 J.D. Hagood Hwy., Scottsburg.
