Mrs. Sandra Smith Talley of Virgilina passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023.
She was born on Nov. 29, 1943, in Halifax County to the late Chester Warren Smith and the late Edna Yates Smith. She was the beloved wife of Fontaine Talley who survives.
She was of the Baptist faith. Sandra retired from Burlington Industries after many years of dedicated service. Upon her retirement, she discovered Facebook and enjoyed sharing stories and pictures with family and friends. However, her greatest joy was in her family, from bragging about her grandchildren to just spending time with all her family. Her passing leaves a void, but her memory will live on through the love she shared with her family and friends.
Sandra Smith Talley is survived by her children, Randy Talley and wife Melissa of Oxford, North Carolina, Chris Talley and wife Heidi of Roxboro, North Carolina, Kendall Talley and wife Brooke of Virgilina, Sandi Lester and husband Frankie of Danville; eleven grandchildren, Drew Talley (Ashley), Hunter Talley, Shelby Talley, Savannah Talley, Nathan Talley, Sara Beth Talley, Austin Talley (Destiny), Evan Talley, Jenna Talley, Peyton Henderson and Ainsley Henderson; three great grandchildren, Jackson Talley, Mila Talley and Koa Talley; siblings Charles Smith (Della), Rita Saunders (Clyde); special friend Gloria Wills; host of extended family and friends.
The family extends a thank you to the staff of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital ICU for their care and compassion during her stay.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Susan Devin Talley; siblings Nelson Ray Smith and Sharon Thompson.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Virgilina Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Talley officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home.
