Mr. Sherman “Tuck” Watkins Chappell of Bridgeport, Connecticut, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at his residence at the age of 87.
Mr. Chappell was born Feb. 4, 1934 in Halifax County, to the late Willie Gilbert Chappell and Rosa Chappell. He was married to the late Mary Magdalene Edmonds Chappell and later married the late Lily Chappell.
Mr. Chappell is survived by eight children, Mary Diane Chappell, Rosemarie Chappell-Trotman, Glorie Chappell, Betty Jean Chappell, Kathleen Chappell, Jerry Chappell, Kenneth Leon Chappell and Denise Chappell; 32 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 25 great great-grandchildren; four sisters, Pearline Powell, Catherine Edmonds, Kay Frances Brown and Odessa Lovelace; one stepsister, Elma Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lily Chappell; and three brothers, Leon Chappell, Randolph Chappell and Willie Chappell.
Funeral services for Mr. Sherman “Tuck” Watkins Chappell will be held Sunday, April 11, 2021, at noon at The Crawford House Chapel, Halifax. Burial will follow at Christ Temple Blue Rock Holiness Church Cemetery, Vernon Hill.
Public viewing for family and friends will be Sunday, April 11, 2021, from 10 a.m. until noon at The Crawford House Chapel. Following COVID-19 guidelines, a face mask and social distancing will be required.
