Ms. Shirley Ann Barksdale of Stebbins Street, South Boston died Tuesday, Jan. 28 at her residence at the age of 66.
Ms. Barksdale was born April 23, 1953 in Halifax County to the late Louis D. Barksdale and Nannie D. Barksdale.
She had a lucrative career in New York and Dallas, Texas before relocating to Halifax County in the early 1980’s.
Ms. Barksdale leaves to cherish loving memories a dedicated companion, Sandra “Doc” Wyatt of South Boston; three siblings, Iretha DeSouza of Danville, Louis Barksdale Jr. (Minnie) of Danville and Jeff Barksdale of Durham, North Carolina; three nieces, Patricia Chambers of South Boston, Chaka DeSouza of Dallas and Kionna Myles of Woodbridge; five aunts, Rachel Coleman (Charles) of Midlothian, Ressie Royster of Richmond and Thelma Womack and Bonnie Womack, both of Baltimore, Maryland and Bessie Edmonds of Halifax; one uncle, George “Skeet” Ewell of South Boston; and a host of other cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston. Burial will be private at a later date. At the request of the family, there will be no public viewing.
The family will receive friends at the home of Sandra “Doc” Wyatt, 1505 Stebbins Street, South Boston, VA.
