Thomas Edward “Tommy” Comer Sr. of South Boston entered his eternal home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 3, 1945, to the late George Robert Comer and the late Mary Zimmer Comer.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Judy Puryear Comer.
Tommy began his working career with Gupton Sheet Metal as a roofer and later went to work with the Halifax County school system in maintenance. Following his retirement, he worked as a crossing guard at Washington-Coleman Elementary School and Halifax County Middle School. Tommy was an outdoorsman; he loved fishing, hunting and working in his yard. A member of Grace Baptist Church, Tommy loved attending church and his church family.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; son Tom Comer (Sarah); grandchildren, Mary Talbott (Kevin), Dillon Comer (Stephanie), Alexis and Bronson Comer, Chevy and Cruz Comer, Bri and Alex Moore; great-grandchildren, Jade, Kye and Case Talbott, Brody and Bo Comer, Cade and Jax Williams; sister Joyce Morris; and brothers Roger and Bobby Comer.
He was preceded in death by brothers Eugene, Louis, and Lloyd Comer; and a sister, Gladys Williamson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Stewart and the Rev. Cole McKinney officiating.
Burial will follow at Grace Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Tommy’s family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
