Valeria Whitt Conner of Scottsburg passed away Jan. 6, 2021.
She was born in Halifax County on Aug. 25, 1929 and was 91 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Whitt and the late Gladys Warren Long Whitt. She was married to the late Joseph Hagood Conner Sr.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she kept the nursery. Valeria also was the cafeteria manager at Scottsburg Elementary for 27 years. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and bowling. She and Joe followed the kids, grandkids, great-grandkids to thousands of ballgames. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend.
Survivors include her sons, Joseph H. Conner Jr., of South Boston, Tony L. Conner and wife Florence of Halifax, and Doug Conner and wife Brenda of Scottsburg; adopted son, Sam Fisher and wife Pat of Halifax; eight grandchildren, Joe Conner III (Tiffany) of Richmond, Kevin Conner (Erica) of Christiansburg, Ryan Conner (Raquel)of Durham, North Carolina, Brandi Abbott (Rob) of Halifax, Chad Conner (Lindsey) of Halifax, Lindy Satterfield (Paige) of Clarksville, Adam Conner (Patricia) of Scottsburg and Matt Conner (Michelle) of Halifax; 18 great-grandchildren, Joseph and Wesley Conner, Spencer, Gracie and Mila Conner, Hannah and Conner Abbott, Cade and Cole Conner, Miranda, Erin Grace Satterfield, Addison and Sydney Conner, Brody and Rylee Conner, Madison, Rally and Oakley Williams; one great- great-grandchild Berkley Duffer; her sister, Venetia W. Stebbins; nieces and nephews Tracy Stebbins Smith of South Boston, Charlene Beaver and Blake Whitt of Roxboro, North Carolina and Mike Whitt of Scottsburg; and her special friend, Georgia Ann High.
Her brother, William Logan Whitt, and brother-in-law Ned Stebbins, also preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery with the Revs. Tony Brooks, Kevin Moen and Andrew Son officiating. In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of face masks and social distancing.
