Mr. Walter Henderson Gunn of Webster Street, South Boston died on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 79.
Mr. Gunn was born in Halifax County on March 2, 1941 to the late Mr. James Henry Gunn and Mrs. Frances Bailey Gunn and was married to Mrs. Dorothy Jones Gunn.
He was a member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Alton and was employed for 38 years with the former J. P. Stevens manufacturing.
Mr. Gunn is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jones Gunn of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Gunn Conner of Mt. Laurel and Doris Gunn-Conner (Nelson) of Chesterfield; four grandchildren, Patrick Terry (Tierra), Ashlea C. Terry, Austin X. Conner and Autumn E. Conner; three brothers, Willie Gunn of Roxboro, North Carolina, James Gunn (Helen) of Temple Hill, Maryland and Robert Claiborne of Canton, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Manzie Smith; two sisters-in-law, Esther Edmondson and Jerline Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Gunn Garner; and two sisters, Dorthia Mae Drumwright and Sarah Smith.
Funeral services for Mr. Walter Henderson Gunn were held Sunday, June 7, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Bowman officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends was held on Saturday, June 6, 2020, from noon until 5 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
