Mr. William Homer Evans of Halifax passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at the Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1940 in Pittsylvania County and was 80 years old. He was the son of the late Jack Otis Evans and the late Elsie Moorefield Evans Sellers and was married to Gloria Faye Wilmouth Evans, who survives.

He was a member of the Oak Level Presbyterian Church and retired from Dan River Mills. He was an avid fisherman, bird hunter and golfer.

Mr. William Homer Evans is survived by his wife, Faye Wilmouth Evans of Halifax; two daughters, Angelia Evans Moser and husband Scott of South Boston and Teresa Evans Samples-Brown and husband Donald of Alton; six grandchildren, Clay Samples, Jennifer Compton, Jessica Foster, Jennifer Crews, Chase Moser and Victoria Evans; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Odestine Brown of Chatham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Sellers.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. John Lewandowski officiating. In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, the funeral service will be live streamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page.

The family will receive friends, celebrating the life of Homer Evans, following the graveside service at his home place, 2010 Oak Level Rd., Halifax.

Per his request, his remains were returned to his home place, Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
