Mr. William Oscar “Boffie” Chism of South Boston died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 72.

Mr. Chism was born on May 25, 1948 in Halifax County to Mrs. Ida Frances Chism-Mabry and the late Mr. June Lucious Chism. He was married to Mrs. Ruby Easley Chism and was a faithful member of County Line Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Mr. Chism is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Easley Chism of the home; his children, Mrs. Renee Jones (Thomas) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Kevin Easley of South Boston, Ms. Kearn Easley and Mr. Dwayne Easley, both of Richmond, Ms. Susan Smith of New Jersey and Mrs. LaShea Chism Foy (Travis) of Halifax; twenty-two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his beloved mother, Mrs. Ida Frances Chism-Mabry of South Boston; one sister, Ms. Zenobia M. Chism of Bowie, Maryland; three brothers, Mr. Kermit Chism of Bowie, Maryland, Mr. Tommy Chism (Debbie) of Landover, Maryland and Mr. James Chism of Durham, North Carolina; four devoted cousins, whom he was very close as his sisters, Annie Woodson, Linda Wyatt, Julia Wyatt and Sarah Wyatt; four sisters-in-law, Ms. Naomi Coats, Mrs. Gladys Coleman, Mrs. Margaret Ann Boyd and Mrs. Sandra Vass; six brothers-in-law, Mr. Johnny Easley, Mr. Lewis Easley, Mr. Harry Easley, Mr. Leon Easley, Mr. Lawrence Easley and Mr. Wayne Easley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his father, Oscar was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Oscar and Sarah Hudson; and one brother, Esko Chism.

Graveside services for Mr. William Oscar “Boffie” Chism will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. with services at County Line Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Apostle Paul Lykes officiating.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, a face mask and social distancing will be required.

Public viewing will be at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
