To the editor:
On behalf of the members of the Faulkner Memorial Lodge No. 91, South Boston, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to all those who helped make the recent blood drive in honor of Libby Redd a successful event.
From the people who came in to donate, the ones who volunteered their time and everyone involved with this blood drive, we are very grateful to you.
On Saturday, May 25, we were able to collect 47 units of blood that will very soon make it to official Red Cross centers.
Every day, blood donations help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Each pint of blood can potentially save up to three lives, and this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation.
Special thanks to the South Boston Volunteer Fire Company who co-sponsored this event and to the Fire Company Auxiliary who graciously donated snacks for the donors.
All of the help provided was certainly appreciated.
