To the editor:

Considering we were competing with other events, I think the Rats and Rods Car Show was a success Saturday.

We had around 35 entrants including the VFW Riders from Norfolk and individuals who came from Oxford, North Carolina.

One neat attendee we had was a gentleman who brought his vehicle that he has been traveling with and inviting veterans to sign it.

It was a good event that showed a lot of love for the VFW, and we look forward to doing it again.

Proceeds from the event will go toward repairing the VFW Post building that was damaged in a shooting on April 22, 2013. The amount raised is still being tallied.

I would like to thank the town of South Boston for the use of their stage and Bo’s Hydraulics for providing a generator.

I also would like to thank the Forever Young Band for donating their time, and Black Rifle Coffee Company and Ranger Up for donating items for raffles and door prizes.

I appreciate all of the venders and spectators who came out.

The VFW is still seeking donations for their building fund.

Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible monetary donation may make checks payable to VFW Post 8243 and mail to 4101 Lowery Road, Virgilina, VA 24598.

I hope to make the Rats and Rods Car Show a yearly event held on the third Saturday in June. I hope to see everyone next year.
