Our digging crew traveled all over Halifax County and into Mecklenburg County. Â
So many people helped in this effort. Special recognition goes out to Bruce Anderson at Charles Anderson Lawn Care Service for contributions of containers, soil and many loads of mulch. The 4-H Honor Club did a wonderful job of helping us set up the sale and then stayed all day to assist shoppers. Abbotts Farm Suppliers once again donated plants. We are also grateful to Christian Roberts of Robb Land Development for the use of his trailer. Nick Long at WHLF 95.3 helped get the word out (Nick and his wife, Lisa recently completed the 2023 Master Gardener Course). As always, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital provided water to keep us going. Â
Congratulations to our raffle winner, Mary Franklin of South Boston who will put the three loads of mulch from Anderson Lawn Care to good use in her garden. Our featured plant, the lavender lilac bush grown from a slip brought to America in 1913 from Russia, was anonymously purchased and donated to the Southern Virginia Botanical Gardens at Edmunds Park. Â
We put on this sale every year to raise funds to further the Southside Master Gardener mission of education and outreach through Virginia Cooperative Extension. Thank you to everyone who donated plants — and to all who came out to the sale to support us and talk about our shared love of gardening. Â
