Harold Reid

Harold Reid, one of the founding members of the vocal group The Statler Brothers, died Friday from kidney failure at his home in Staunton at the age of 80. Reid is known for his bass voice in the group and his sense of humor. The Statler Brothers received six consecutive CMA Vocal Group of the Year awards from 1972-1977 and again on three other years. The group also won several Academy of Country Music Awards and the American Music Award for Favorite Duo or Group 1979-1981. The Grammy Award winning country music group is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Michael R. Wilborne of South Boston remembers meeting the four members of the Statler Brothers, Harold Reid, his brother, Don Reid, Phil Balsley and Jimmy Fortune,  prior to a concert in Richmond. Each one took time to give an autograph and take a picture. Wilborne also attended the Statler Brothers final concert on Oct. 26, 2002 at the Salem Civic Center.
