University of Virginia pitcher and former Halifax County High School standout Andrew Abbott had a solid outing last Friday in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team’s 7-6 loss in 10 innings to Taichung Cooperative Bank, a professional team, at Taichung City Stadium in Taiwan.

Abbott scattered two hits over three innings without allowing an earned run. Unfortunately, Abbott was the loser on the mound after allowing international tiebreaker runs in the 10th inning.

Team USA finished with a 2-2 slate in Taiwan, including a series win over Chinese Taipei, ahead of this week’s trip to Japan where it will compete in the 43rd USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series.

The Team USA schedule is as follows:

• Wednesday vs. Japan (5 a.m. ET; Imabari City, Japan; Imabari Municipal Baseball Stadium)

• Thursday vs. Japan (5 a.m. ET; Iwakuni, Japan; Kizuna Stadium)

• Saturday vs. Japan (5 a.m. ET; Kooriyama, Japan; Kaiseizan Stadium)

• Sunday vs. Japan (5 a.m. ET; Tokyo, Japan; Meiji Jingu Stadium)

Abbott has compiled a solid record at the University of Virginia.
