Friday the South Boston Recreation Department awarded the archery camp participants with first, second and third place medals as well as participation certificates for everyone who attended the camp Monday, July 26, through Friday.
A total of 81 kids participated in 15th annual archery camp that is now held in memory of the late Francis Mitchell.
The winning team shot a score of 322 points and consisted of 15 kids, and Imeri Simmons-Talbott led the team and shot a score of 45 points. Sophia Long wasn’t far behind shooting a score of 42 points in the team’s victory.
The second-place team shot a combined score of 215 points and was led by Elijah Conner who shot a total score of 64 points.
The third-place team shot a combined score of 194 total points and was led by Matthew Fares who shot a score of 36 points.
“I’m so proud of all of the kids, whether they received a medal or not they’re all winners. I am so proud of them all,” said the South Boston Recreation Department Camp Director Mary Douglas.
She added, “If they didn’t get a medal this year, they will next year. The camp was great as usual, and we expect the kids to come out again next year.”
The archery camp is an annual tradition held at the South Boston Recreation Department, and the number of participants continues to increase.
