Halifax Country Club hosted its annual two-ball tournament on July 25-26 after postponing the original date in April due to COVID-19.
Due to social distancing guidelines, the participants rode in separate carts, and there was no social or pictures after the tournaments completion.
A total of 34 teams took part in the event, and tournament participants and organizers dubbed it a huge success. There was a lot of talent in the field of participants including one of the state’s top amateur golfers, Peter Gasperini.
Heading into the final day of play, W.J. Long and Lyle Moore trailed Joey Gasperini and Tyler Holt by three shots, but closed to within one shot after a 30 on the front nine. Gasperini and Holt held a one shot lead with one hole to play, but a bogey on 18 forced a playoff with Long and Moore. Long and Moore birdied the first playoff hole to win the tournament.
A big thanks was given to Bob Tysinger, Gary Gupton, Susan Chandler and Mrs. Pat for all of their work on the tournament.
Next up at HCC is the club championship that will take place Aug. 8-9. The tournament will feature some of the best golfers in Halifax County and WHLF also will be there to cover the final round action on Sunday.
