The South Boston Recreation Department’s Business & Industrial Basketball League and 30 & Over Basketball League opened Sunday with some familiar teams emerging from the series of benefit games with wins.

Italian Delight, Benchmark and Dollar General were among the first week’s winners, as were Aquatics, AWNC I and a new double entity, Tvilum/Sentara.

With 13 teams in the league this season, one team gets a bye each week, with the Youth Coaches having their bye week on the opening week.

A trio of players, Sherman Logan of Dollar General, Trelanne Johnson of Aquatics and Terrance Calloway of AWNC I earned Player of the Week honors for the opening week of the season.

Logan scored 19 points including a trio of treys in his team’s win over Goodyear. Johnson pumped in 20 points with the help of eight field goals in Aquatics’ win over Presto. Calloway scored 14 points including four 3-pointers in helping his team defeat ABB.
