Former Halifax County High School standout and University of Virginia pitcher Andrew Abbott picked up the win on the mound Saturday as Team USA topped Cuba 10-2 Saturday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.

His win came in the final game of the 8th Annual USA Vs. Cuba International Friendship Series.

Abbott started the game for Team USA and pitched 2.2 innings. He faced 10 batters, striking out two and allowing one walk, three hits and one earned run.

Saturday’s win by the USA Collegiate National Team allowed it to clinch the series 4-1, its first time winning four games in the series since 2013.

Abbott pitched one inning on Thursday, facing two batters and walking one in USA’s 8-0 win. He did not pitch in Team USA’s 6-5 loss to Cuba on Friday at Coleman Field in Cary, North Carolina.

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team left Sunday heading to Taiwan for the 19th USA vs. Chinese Taipei International Friendship Series. Games are scheduled Tuesday through Friday.
