South Boston resident Peter Gasperini led the Radford University golf team in the Kiawah Classic that concluded Tuesday, playing his way into the Top-15 after carding a 5-under-par round of 67 in the last round.
Gasperini had nine birdies in the final round, making four on the front nine and five on the back nine. His effort moved him from a tie for 39th place up to a tie for 13th place in the tournament’s individual standings. The redshirt senior’s 14 birdies in the tournament ranked seventh among the 121 participants.
The South Boston resident posted rounds of 72, 75 and 67 for a 214 total, good enough for 3-over-par for the tournament.
Auburn won the tournament at 31-under par, 15 shots ahead of second-place College of Charleston. Auburn’s Jovan Rebula won the individual title at 13-under.
The Kiawah Classic was the final tournament of the fall season for Radford University. The spring season will begin in February.
