Mecklenburg Country Club in Chase City hosted the first Piedmont Junior Golf Association tournament of the summer on Thursday.

The youth representing Halifax Country Club had a strong day taking home several first-place finishes. Several other golfers placed in the Top 5 in their respective divisions.

In the boys 7-9 year old division, Jackson Grant shot a 40 to earn the lowest score of the day and finished in second place. Brady Grant shot a 42 and finished in third, followed by Camden Saunders and Noah O’Kelly shooting a 41 and 54 respectfully and finishing in fourth and fifth place.

In the boys 10-11 year old division, Owen Mason shot a 44 to finish in first place. JD Cunningham finished in first place and recorded the lowest score of the day in the 14-15 year old division by shooting a 41. Also in the 14-15 year old division, Alex Payne shot a 50, and CJ DeGraw shot a 53.

Cameron Burnett also finished in first place in the 16-17 year old division by shooting a 47.

The Piedmont Junior Golf Association plays weekly throughout the summer, and the next tournament will take place on Thursday at the Nottoway River Country Club.
