The Halifax County X-Play Angels all-star softball team had little trouble in capturing the Dixie Softball District 7 championship Monday night with a 15-0 win over Charlotte County in three innings in the district title game at the Mary M. Bethune Complex in Halifax.

Hayden Rudder had a big night on the mound for Halifax County, tossing a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and yielding no walks.

Halifax County had 13 hits in the game, with Rudder, Emmerson Salley, Allie Payne and Kyndall Richardson all getting two hits. Lily Torian, Kynnedy Riley, Avery Crenshaw, Kennedy Bowen and Kendra Hamlett had one hit each.

Along with the 13 hits, Halifax County took advantage of four walks and two Charlotte County errors.

Halifax County jumped on top with three runs in the first inning and broke the game open with 12 runs in the third inning. Batters contributing to the big inning included Richardson, Rudder, Riley, Crenshaw, Bowen and Hamlett, all of whom drove in at least one run.

It was a perfect tournament for the Halifax County X-Play Angels team. Halifax County defeated Charlotte County in Friday’s opener, topped Brookneal on Saturday and capped the tournament with Monday’s win over Charlotte County in the championship game.
