The late Jeff Nelson would be proud of what the golf tournament named in his honor has produced in the way of funding for various causes in Halifax County, and Friday’s 25th Annual Jeff Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament was no exception.

A total of 44 teams turned out for a day of golf at Green’s Folly Golf Course in support of tournament host Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation, with all proceeds from the tourney earmarked for helping fund interscholastic athletics.

The team representing Green’s Folly Golf Course, including Chris Dockrill, Doug Newcomb, Charlie Payne, David Day and Don Hill, turned in the day’s low score of 55 to win the “A” Flight and the overall title.

E.C. Lewis Construction carded a round of 58 to win the “B” Flight, First Piedmont posted a round of 60 to take “C” Flight honors, and the team representing Italian Delight won the “D” Flight with a 64.

Corporate sponsors for the event included American National Bank & Trust Co., Danville Distributing Co., Harris, Harvey, Neal & Co. and Halifax Sentara Regional Hospital.
