Contestants in The Gazette-Virginian Professor Pigskin Football Contest found themselves in another tough tussle last week, and a new first-place winner emerged from the pack.

Danny Newton of South Boston was the only contestant that had as many as 12 correct picks on the 15-game slate, and, as a result, Newton will claim the $30 first prize.

The Professor had to do a lot of calculating with the tiebreaker again as six contest entry blanks had 11 correct picks. Roger Long of Forest will receive the $20 second-prize as he was the closest on the tiebreaker. Larry D. Roller of Scottsburg will receive the $10 third prize.

Last week’s slate of games was a tough one for many contest entrants. Behind the six entries that had 11 correct picks were 12 others with 10 correct picks and 16 entry blanks with nine correct picks.

Professor Pigskin invites everyone to join in the fun of the contest each week. The official contest entry blank appears in the sports section of The Gazette-Virginian each Monday during the contest season.

All entries, whether turned in at the office of The Gazette-Virginian or submitted by mail, must be received by 5 p.m. Friday in order to be eligible for judging.
