The Onez pushed their winning streak to nine games and Hitachi’s David Medley scored a league-high 23 points in his squad’s win over ADUSA Distribution LLC in Week 9 of South Boston Recreation Business and Industrial and Over-30 leagues Sunday afternoon.
Game 1: Youth Coaches 52, Presto 33
Presto’s Dequan Hutcherson scored a game-high 20 points but it wasn’t enough to lead his squad to victory as the Youth Coaches rode a dominating first-half performance to a double-digit victory in the afternoon’s opener.
The Youth Coaches sank 18 shots from the floor in the opening quarters and went 10-for-22 from the free throw line on its way to a 25-13 halftime lead.
Ta’Shawn Medley and Ethan Terry led the Youth Coaches with 14 points apiece while Joe Martin dropped eight.
Hutcherson knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to the game-high while Tyler Sims checked in with five.
Presto was effective from beyond the arc in the second half as it drained four treys in the final two stanzas with all coming from Hutcherson.
Game 2: Bo Time/Bojangles 49, Polywood II 28
Bo Time/Bojangles used a dominating second-half performance to pick up a double-digit victory over Polywood II in the afternoon’s second game.
The two sides were evenly matched over the opening two quarters and it showed in the score line with Bo Time/Bojangles holding onto a narrow 20-17 lead at the break.
That all changed after the break as Bo Time/Bojangles sank four of its five 3-pointers to outscore Polywood II 29-11 in the final two quarters.
Polywood II’s Lymon Gregory led all scorers with 14 points in the loss.
Earnest Boxley, Demetre Faulkner and Blaine Key led Bo Time/Bojangles with 11 points apiece while Dante White dropped eight.
Jeremiah Martin added seven for Polywood II.
Bo Time/Bojangles moves to 5-4 on the year.
Polywood II drops to 3-6.
Game 3: Benchmark (6-3) picked up a win in the third game after AISIN NC (4-4) was forced to forfeit.
Game 4: Hitachi 61, ADUSA Distribution LLC 56
ADUSA Distribution LLC nearly put together a second-half comeback but in the end, its efforts fell short as Hitachi escaped with a narrow win in Game 4.
Driven by Medley’s shooting performance, Hitachi entered the second half holding a 28-20 lead. However, ADUSA Distribution LLC played the stubborn opponent and refused to go quietly into the night, outscoring Hitachi 36-33 over the final two stanzas to nearly stage an impressive comeback.
Medley led all scorers with 23 points while Hitachi’s Cederick Jennings dropped 11.
Nykewanze Henderson led ADUSA with 17 points while Jaqvon Waverly added 15 and E.J. Henderson dropped 13 to give the squad three players in double-digit scoring.
Hitachi improves to 8-1 on the season.
ADUSA Distribution LLC moves to 4-5.
Game 5: The Onez 65, Polywood I 53
Deshon Dabbs scored a game-high 18 points, The Onez drained seven 3-pointers and the squad completed an undefeated regular season with a double-digit win over Polywood in Sunday’s closer.
The Onez did their damage in the first half, sinking four of their seven treys in the opening quarters to take a 33-24 lead into the break.
Polywood I didn’t struggle from beyond the arc as well, also sinking seven 3-pointers in the losing effort.
Dabbs led The Onez with 18 points while Kejaun Mayo chipped in with 16.
Rayshawn Womack knocked down four 3s on his way to a team-high 14 points while Malik Short checked in right behind with 11.
The Onez finish the season at 9-0.
Polywood I falls to 5-4.
