The Gazette-Virginian’s Professor Pigskin Football Contest kicks off Monday with the first week’s contest entry form appearing in the newspaper’s sports section.

For the next 12 weeks the official Professor Pigskin Contest entry blank will appear on the sports pages of The Gazette-Virginian each Monday.

“We thank everyone who has participated in the contest in the past, and we invite everyone to get out their pens and pencils and join in the fun,” The Professor said.

“I am looking forward to the new season, and I want to see as many people as possible to participate in the contest this season.”

This year’s Professor Pigskin Football Contest has a new perfect-score-takes-all prize format, a format that is similar to a winner-takes-all format.

The weekly prizes of $30 for first place, $20 for second place and $10 for third place will be awarded if nobody turns in a perfect slate. If a contest entrant turns in a perfect slate, he or she will win all of the prize money (a total of $60), and there will be no first place, second place or third place prize awarded for that week. Should two or more contest entrants turn in a perfect slate of games, the $60 will be divided equally among the contestants that have a perfect score.

Participating in the contest is simple. Advertisements will be placed in different locations throughout the newspaper. Contest participants will have to look in the advertisements, find the games and write down their pick of the winner in the designated place on the contest entry blank.

All contest entry forms, whether mailed or brought to The Gazette-Virginian office, must be received in the office of The Gazette-Virginian by 5 p.m. each Friday in order to be eligible for the week’s contest judging.

Contest participants may mail their entries to Professor Pigskin Football Contest, P.O. Box 524, South Boston, Va. 24592 or turn their contest entry forms in at The Gazette-Virginian office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. any day Monday through Friday.

Persons participating in the contest are reminded to review and follow the contest rules listed on the contest entry form. Entries that do not meet the required rules will not be eligible for prizes.
