It was no contest Thursday night as the Halifax County High School boys and girls swim teams scored an easy sweep over Magna Vista High School and Martinsville High School Thursday night in a Piedmont District tri-meet at the South Boston YMCA.

The Comets boys team cruised to an easy 56-7 win over Martinsville High School and tallied an easy 57-17 win over Magna Vista High School.

Halifax County High School’s girls team scored a 61-9 win over Martinsville High School and a 59-17 win over Magna Vista High School.

“I thought we competed at a high level,” said Comets head coach Shawn Torian.

“However, we have right many swimmers that need to lower their times. We are coming up on our district championship meet, and we need to be at our best to bring home a team championship.”

The Comets boys team took wins in six individual events and won all three of the relay races. Halifax County High School’s girls team scored wins in seven individual events and swept all three relays.

Maci Henderson and Zoe Talley each won two individual events in the girls meet. Henderson won the 200-meter IM with a time of three minutes and 24.66 seconds and won the 400-meter freestyle race with a time of 6:28.57. Talley won the 50-meter freestyle race in a time of 33.90 seconds and took the top spot in the 100-meter freestyle race with a time of 1:20.68.

Lydia Wenzel swam to victory in the 200-meter freestyle race, posting a time of 3:01.63. Abby Dunn took the top spot in the 100-meter backstroke race with a time of 1:37.46, and Lilian Zhang won the 100-meter breaststroke event in a time of 1:42.56.

Halifax County High School made a sweep of the three relay races. The team of Maddie Freshour, Wenzel, Henderson and Talley posted a time of 2:59.71 in winning the 1st 200-meter medley relay. Freshour, Dunn, Henderson and Talley won the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:23.83. Anna Lewis, Zhang, Jillian Howerton and Dunn teamed up to win the 400-meter relay race with a time of 6:19.0.

The Comets girls team also earned second-place in two individual events. Wenzel placed second in the 400-meter freestyle race with a time of 6:43.10, and Freshour took the runner-up spot in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:37.75.

In the boys meet, Joe Smiley won two races, taking the top spot in the 200-meter freestyle race with a time of 2:34.73 and winning the 400-meter freestyle race in a time of 5:38.34.

Shea Carey won the 50-meter freestyle race in a time of 27.89 seconds. Josh Roberts took the top spot in the 100-meter freestyle event with a time of 1:10.50, Jackson Dunavant won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:29.71, and Jake Carr swam to victory in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:26.78.

The team of Dunavant, Carr, Carey and Christian Worley won the 200-meter medley relay in a time of 2:23.66. Posting a time of 2:03.19, the team of Roberts, Dunavant, Wyatt Nelson and Carey won the 200-meter freestyle relay. Joey Duffer, Nelson, Roberts and Smiley teamed up to win the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 5:10.55.

In addition to the wins, the Comets posted a pair of second-place finishes in individual events. Dunavant took the runner-up spot in the 200-meter freestyle race in a time of 2:41.80, and Nelson placed second in the 100-meter freestyle race with a time of 1:16.75.
