A second-half goal by Jose Coronado proved not to be enough, as the Halifax County High School varsity boys’ soccer team fell 5-1 to Magna Vista High School in Ridgeway on Wednesday.

Magna Vista had 11 shots on goal compared to six for Halifax County, and the Comets had two corner kicks, compared to two for the Warriors.

The Warriors scored seven minutes into the game and took a 3-0 lead at halftime, according to Comets’ head coach Mario Sadler.

“We got the ball to start the second half, and 45 seconds into the second half Jose Coronado scored a goal to make it 3-1, but that was the only goal we could manage to score, said Sadler.

Magna Vista scored twice more late in the second half for the final margin.

“Despite the lop-sided score, Kyjuan Walker played a great game in goal,” said Sadler.

“The score is no indication of how well he played, and without his great effort and some spectacular saves, it could have been worse.

Walker had six saves for the game.
