Halifax County High School's baseball team is playing in Thursday’s Virginia High School League Class 5 State Tournament semi-final game against Mills Godwin High School at Glen Allen High School.

The Eagles Bryce Safferwich hit a 2 RBI in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Mills Godwin a 5-4 win over the Comets

For the third time in the game the Comets load the bases but fail to score in the top of the 7th inning. Comets lead 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning

Drew Harlow finished his night on the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning after the Eagles got a couple of hits. Alex Lowery went to the mound and pitched to one batter to get the final out of the inning. Halifax leads 4-3 heading into the top of the 7th inning

The Comets managed to load the bases for the second time in the game in the top of the 6th inning but failed to score. Comets continue to lead 4-3.

5:03 p.m: Comets are retired in order in the top of the fifth inning — HCHS 4, Mills Godwin 3.

5 p.m.: Eagles get runners on base with a pair of hits but Comets' Alex Lowery made a great defensive play at third base on an attempted stolen base and the Comets continue to lead 4-3 after four innings.

4:50 p.m.: Comets regain the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a run-scoring hit by Dylan Clark — Comets strand three runners on base but now lead 4-3.

4:35 p.m.: For the first time in the game the Comets retire the Eagles in order in the bottom of the third inning — score remains Comets 3, Eagles 3.

4:30 p.m.: Comets Shaun Perkins walked and Alex Lowery followed with a hit but Comets fail to score in the top of the third inning leaving the score 3-3.

4:22 p.m.: A great defensive play by the Comets yields a double play on a Mills Godwin bunt — Comets and Eagles remain tied at 3-3.

4:15 p.m.:  The Comets were able to get a couple of runners on base in the top of the second inning but failed to score — game remains tied 3-3.

4:05 p.m.: Mills Godwin battled back to score 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning with the help of 3 hits and a Comets error to tie the game at 3-3.

3:50 p.m.: Comets explode for three runs in the top of the first inning with the help of run scoring hits from Drew Harlow and Alex Lowery and lead 3-0. Harlow is on the mound to start the game for the Comets.

3 p.m.: Stafford High School edged Hickory High School 11-10 in the first semi-final game to advance to Friday's state championship. Stafford will face the winner of Thursday's Halifax County-Mills Godwin game, slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
