The Halifax County High School golf team rebounded in positive fashion Tuesday, winning the fifth round of the seven regular-season Piedmont District golf tournaments at Beaver Hills Golf Course in Martinsville.

Halifax County High School edged Magna Vista High School by two shots, 323-325, to increase its lead in the overall regular-season district standings to 53 shots. The Comets had lost for the first time this season a week earlier at Tuscarora Country Club in Danville.

The Comets’ Harrison Culpepper earned medalist honors and led the Comets with a round of 76. Will Abdi followed for the Comets with a round of 77, Jaxon Lloyd carded a round of 83, and Peyton Wallace’s round of 87 was the final counting score for the Comets.

GW had its best outing of the season with a third-place finish with a round of 337. Patrick County High School (343), Tunstall High School (380) and Bassett High School (385) rounded out the field.

Magna Vista High School will be the host team for next week’s round that will be played at Oak Hills Golf Course in Eden, North Carolina.
