Halifax County High School golfer Will Abdi sends a putt toward the hole during Thursday’s Piedmont District tournament round at Tuscarora Country Club in Danville.

The Halifax County High School golf team had a tough outing Thursday in the regular-season Piedmont District tournament at Tuscarora Country Club in Danville, Virginia, with the Comets losing their first district round of the season.

Magna Vista High School won Thursday’s round, edging Halifax County High School 354-358 as the Comets posted their worst round of the season.

Despite the loss, the Comets continue to hold the overall district lead by a 51-shot margin over Magna Vista High School.

Patrick County High School finished third in Thursday’s round with a 363 team score and Tunstall High School came in with a 380 total.

Willoughby Gasperini led the Comets with a round of 86. Joseph Wilson’s round of 89, Will Abdi’s round of 91 and Harrison Culpepper’s round of 92 comprised the four counting scores for the Comets.

Minjune Kim and Ryan Corona also competed for the Comets, with Kim posting a round of 95 and Corona coming in with a round of 103. Only the four best scores are counted toward the team total.

Will Gardner of Magna Vista High School earned medalist honors in Thursday’s tournament, carding a round of 81.
