Halifax County High School senior pitcher Drew Harlow and senior first baseman Shaun Perkins have been named to the First Team of the Virginia High School League Class 5 All-State Baseball Team.

Harlow and Perkins were among a strong group of Comets players that helped lead Halifax County High School to a 23-4 record and a berth in the state Final Four.

The selection of Harlow and Perkins to the Class 5 all-state First Team capped a post-season that has seen a handful of Comets players reap honors.

Harlow was named Player of the Year in Region 5D and was one of four Comets seniors selected for the Region 5D First Team. Perkins, second baseman Dylan Clark and senior outfielder Will Wallace also were tabbed as First Team All-region picks.

Only those players who were selected as First Team All-Region picks were eligible for consideration for the all-state team.

Honors for the Halifax County High School baseball team began with Harlow and Franklin County High School pitcher Cameron Mullis being named as Players of the Year in the Piedmont District and Comets head coach Kenneth Day being named as Piedmont District Coach of the Year.

Four Comets players, Harlow, Perkins, Clark and sophomore catcher Joey Duffer were named to the First Team of the All-Piedmont District Team.

Comets seniors Alex Lowery and Wallace, along with junior Christian Worley were named to the Second Team of the All-Piedmont District Team. Lowery was named as utility player, Wallace was chosen as an outfielder, and Worley was picked as a pitcher.
