The girls team finished with an average time of 25 minutes and 42 seconds, and the boys team finished behind Tunstall with an average team time of 19 minutes and 38 seconds.

Every single runner for the Comets set new personal records.

Kate Bishop led the girls team placing second overall with a time of 23 minutes and eight seconds, and Ethan Kirkhart led the boys team placing fourth overall with a time of 18 minutes and 39 seconds.

“Coach Riddle and I are so extremely proud of our team, every single person set their personal record at this district meet. That’s what we want to see as coaches, our runners improving every single week, especially getting towards the end of the season,” said coach Michelle Palmore.

Bishop along with Lydia Wenzel, Morgan Crenshaw, Ashley Irby and Mallory Salley all placed in the top 15 runners for the girl’s race.

Kirkhart along with Will Van Opstal and Justin Pool all placed in the top 15 runners for the boy’s race.

“Our runners have really been putting in the work at practice and it is showing at the meets,” said Palmore.

“They were focused as a team and knew what they needed to do. They are setting goals for every race and are reaching those goals,” she added.

The Comets also had three eighth grade runners participate in the race with Brennan Hunt running a time of 21 minutes and 26 seconds, Joel Layne running a time of 24 minutes and 23 seconds, and Cole Johnson running a time of 25 minutes and three seconds.

“We are excited for the district championship meet next week. It’s going to be very competitive, but we are up to the challenge,” Palmore concluded.
