Three members of the Halifax County High School softball team have been named to the Second Team of the Virginia High School League Class 5 All-State Softball Team.

Comets senior catcher Katie Cole, freshman outfielder Trinity Martin and freshman Madison Barnes were named to the all-state squad. Barnes was selected as a utility player.

Virginia High School league officials made the announcement of the all-state team Wednesday.

The Halifax County High School softball team played its way to the state quarterfinals this season and finished with a 17-6 overall record.

In all, Halifax County High School had five diamonders to receive all-state accolades. Along with the three Comets softball players earning Second Team honors, two Comets baseball players, senior pitcher Drew Harlow and senior first baseman Shaun Perkins were named to the First Team of the Virginia High School League Class 5 All-State Baseball Team.
