Alexis Hubbard won the 300-meter dash, and two Halifax County High School girls relay teams had strong performances with second-place and third-place finishes at the Heritage Invitational Meet Saturday at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.
A total of 17 teams competed at the meet, including the Halifax County High School girls indoor track and field team which recorded eight Top-10 finishes in both individual and relay events.
Hubbard won the 300-meter dash with a time of 46.43 seconds, and finished ninth in the long jump at 15 feet, three inches.
Comets’ relay teams also had a good meet, with the 4x400-meter relay team finishing second in its event with a time of 5:07.47, and the Comets’ 4x200-meter relay team finished third in its event with a time of 2:01.59.
JaNashia Jones was fifth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.96 seconds, and J’Quaycia Brown was seventh in the triple jump at 32-3.
Other Top-10 finishers in individual events included Tanaya Brandon with a sixth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.71 seconds and an eighth-place finish in the 300-meter dash in 49.21 seconds.
Alicia Mills was ninth in the 55-meter hurdles at 11.51 seconds and 12th in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.09 seconds, and Brown was 12th in the long jump at 14-10.5.
Azari Hines was 14th in the shot put at 20-7, and Myeciah Tucker was 18th in the shot put at 19 feet, while Jones was 19th in the 300-meter dash at 52.90 seconds.
Makayla Johnson was 32nd in the 55-meter dash at 8.51 seconds, and Shaniqua Carden was 40th in the 55-meter dash at 8.88 seconds.
