Jamal Bellamy had five first-place finishes, and the Halifax County Middle School boys’ track team, comprised of six athletes, won a tri-meet recently against Laurel Park and Fieldale-Collinsville middle schools.

The Lions scored 53 points to win the meet, with Bellamy winning the discus event with a toss of 80 feet, the long jump (16 feet, six inches), high jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, according to coach John Deal.

Brennan Hunt scored points in the discus (66 feet), shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash, while Tyler Staton won the mile run and Will Payne was second in the half-mile run, Deal added.

The Lions also placed second in the 400-meter relay, according to Deal.
