What has been a tough season for the Halifax County High School varsity volleyball team ended Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss to Jefferson Forest High School in the first round of the Virginia High School League Region 4D Tournament.
Jefferson Forest High School swept the contest in straight sets, winning by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-7.
“JF has an awesome program with lots of great athletes who know how to play volleyball,” said Comets head coach Meg Bane.
“We could not break serve nor hold serve, which makes it hard for us to score points. Hat’s off to our athletes for a great season.”
While the Comets struggled at times throughout the contest, there were some strong individual performances.
“Trinity Martin had one of her best games this year with five blocks and a solid defensive performance,” Bane pointed out.
“Kendall Foushee, a senior, has provided us with excellent leadership all year as our setter, basically our quarterback on the court. Cassie Ashe, our other senior, has grown as an athlete and stepped up to playing all the way around and has done an excellent job at that. It is exciting as a coach to see so much growth over the season in our young team to prepare us for the upcoming years.”
Foushee had six good serves, scoring four points, and had 28 sets with five assists. Martin had nine good serves scoring 4 points, had seven attacks with two kills and had two solo blocks and three assists. She also logged seven digs in the match.
Kirsten Wellons had nine attacks with three kills. Bailey Bowen had seven good serves and nine attacks with two kills. Madison Barnes had 28 sets with three assists.
