The Halifax County Middle School girls softball team celebrated the eighth grade team players prior to the game on Thursday night. Each eighth grade team member was escorted onto the field with parents and each received a bouquet of flowers and a gift bag from the coaches and team. After winning the home game against Patrick County on Thursday afternoon, HCMS Lions softball team is now the regular-season district champions. Tournament play will start on Wednesday with the HCMS Lions softball team playing Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School on the home field. Lily Torian drove in a game-high four RBIs, Kennedy Bowen drove in three runs and Halifax County ran past Patrick County 13-3 in Junior Piedmont District action last Thursday night.
Torian also smacked a game-high three hits while Bowen and Allie Payne recorded a pair of hits as well for the Lions.
Halifax entered the bottom of the fourth inning facing a 3-2 deficit after Patrick County tagged the Lions for three runs in the top half. However, Halifax didn’t stay down long as it countered the Cougars’ efforts with seven runs in its half.

Ella Seamster tied the game when she made a complete trip around the bases courtesy of a pair of errors on her ground ball to third. Bowen put the Lions in front with a two-run double to left field and Torian made it a five-run game with her three-run triple to left. Torian concluded the rally when she stole home to make it 9-3.
Not taking anything for granted, Halifax tagged Patrick County for three runs to push its advantage to nine. Payne got things started with her RBI single and Bowen made it an eight-run contest with her run-scoring double to right. Torian ended the big frame with her line-drive single to left that scored Bowen and made it 12-3.

Sophie Saunders sent the game to its early end with an RBI single in the sixth.

Despite going down midway through, the Lions grabbed the lead in the first courtesy of Kyndall Richardson’s RBI single to left. Halifax doubled down on its lead in the second when Savannah Hetzell scored on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.

Patrick County took the lead courtesy of a three-run, fourth inning on a pair of RBI singles and an error.
Torian got the win on the bump, scattering three hits and allowing three runs – none earned – while striking out two. Richardson closed things out, throwing two innings of one-hit, shutout relief while striking out five.
