Pan Pan Yang finished with the soccer version of a hat trick with three goals, and goalie McKayla Meadows pitched a shutout with two saves, as Halifax County defeated Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School 8-0 at Halifax County Middle School.

The win improved the Lady Lions’ record to 4-1 for the season, and it came after a strong first half where the Lions led 5-0.

Leah Wright and MaKayla Powell each had two goals, and Peyton Davis added another for the Lions, who held a 5-0 lead at halftime, before ending the game with three goals in the second half, the final tally coming with 13:40 remaining in the game.

“Last night was a huge win for the Lady Lions,” said head coach Megan Nipper, noting that the Lions had 24 shots on goal in the first half and six in the second.

Yang had five shots on goal and two scores, Wright had four shots and one goal, Davis had four shots and one goal, and Powell had four shots and one goal in the first half, while Chesney Richardson had five shots, Cheyane Davis had two shots.

Yang had four corner kicks, while Wright and Davis had one each, while Davis took a free kick, and Wright took a penalty kick that barely missed when it hit the top of the goal and bounded off.

Yang and Powell each had two shots on goal and added a score apiece in the second half, while Davis had one shot and one goal.

Richardson and Davis each added a shot on goal in the second half, while Yang took two free kicks for the team in the second half and had one corner kick. Destini Brooks took the goal kicks for the team.

“Rena Asare was the most valuable player of the team,” noted Nipper. 

“She worked her defensive skills and got the ball to the offense.”
